Digital Signage is the most convenient and visually appealing mode of advertisement and information display, being used by organizations these days. There are several reasons why organizations resort to LED Display Wall for their information display purposes as well as for advertisement; Firstly, its cost effectiveness and secondly its long operation life. Previously, digital signage tools like neon signboards were used for advertisement before being replaced by LED Display Wall. In this, blog we will discuss about LED technology in detail and also pen down basic differences between an Indoor and Outdoor LED Display Wall.
What is an LED Display Wall?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LED Display Wall uses millions of LED lamps as pixels to produce high quality images. Thus, they are known as LED Display Wall. Each LED lamp of the wall is responsible for displaying a colour; therefore these walls produce very high quality and vivid images and seamless viewing experience. A LED Display Wall consists of multiple cabinets joined together to create a large, bezel-less display. Due to this, LED walls can be prepared of any size by joining cabinets together depending upon the size of room where it needs to be installed.
Before moving to differences between Indoor and Outdoor LED Display Wall, let’s discuss about basic terminology of LED Walls.
What are LED Lamps or Pixels?
Each LED cabinet comprises of millions of LEDs/SMD Components soldered in an array to create a display. These individual LED lamps are known as pixels that ultimately form the screen resolution. Technically, LED lamps or pixels are tiny light bulbs that are soldered in a printed circuit board (PCB). They are not like the incandescent lamps that burn a filament to emit light. LED lamps produce light by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material. The electrons recombine with holes releasing energy in the form of photons. The colour of an LED lamp is determined by the energy required by an electron to cross the band gap of the semiconductor.
What is Pixel Pitch?
Pixel Pitch is the density of pixels on an LED Display. It is inversely proportional to the resolution of the LED Display Wall. According to the definition, Pixel Pitch is the distance in millimetres from the centre of a pixel to the centre of the adjacent pixel. It depicts the amount of space between two pixels. Smaller pixel pitch means more pixel density. Smaller pixel pitch also means higher screen resolution. Pixel pitch is directly proportional to the viewing distance of the display. Higher the pixel pitch, higher will be the viewing distance and vice versa.
Difference Between Indoor and Outdoor LED Display Wall
Indoor LED Display Wall
Indoor LED Display Wall is used for indoor advertisement and information display purposes. Therefore, higher IP (Ingress Protection) rating is not required for Indoor LED Wall. They are not exposed to external environmental factors like harsh sunlight, rain, dust, smoke, etc. The Indoor LED Display Wall is made for bright lighting conditions, therefore it has high brightness. They are made with smaller pixel pitch for shorter viewing distance. Audience view the LED Display Wall from a short distance, thus higher resolution and lower pixel pitch is required.
Outdoor LED Display Wall
Outdoor LED Display is usually mounted in outdoor areas at public places. They are viewed from a larger distance, therefore larger pixel pitch and lower pixel density is required. On the other hand, Outdoor LED Display Wall is several times brighter than the Indoor Wall. Outdoor LED Wall has higher IP rating to protect it from weather conditions like sunlight, rain, dust and hail.
Features of LED Display Wall
- The Push and Pull module makes maintenance very easy for LED Display Wall. The magnetic attachment makes front and rear maintenance easier.
- Seamless LED cabinets have no bezels, providing uninterrupted viewing experience.
- Wide viewing angles.
- 100% uniformity of brightness and colour throughout the wall.
- Any size of LED Display Wall can be formed with the LED cabinets.
- Low maintenance
- Power efficient
- Long operation life of 100,000 hours due to low power consumption and negligible heating.
- They can be used in rooms with high ambient lighting.
- Best refresh rates among traditional displays.
- Fanless and noiseless operation.
Globus Infocom also provides interactive multi-feature LED Display Wall for organizations as per user’s requirement and budget.
Application Areas of LED Display Wall
LED Display Wall can be used for advertisement and information communication in areas like lobby, reception, retail stores, education and training centres, police control centre, traffic control centre, crossroads, etc. LED Display Wall is also used at any place where a large display without bezels is required to function under high ambient light.
